Local Flight Around Redon

  • August 8, 2022

I arrive at the airfield around 8:45 AM, allowing time to prepare for the flight. I check the weather and NOTAMs, then grab the keys before heading towards the hangar. The fuel tanks are purged in the morning. A pre-flight inspection is carried out, following the checklist – everything checks out! As the hangar doors open, a nearly cool morning breeze enters. I taxi the Cessna onto the parking area. After starting the engine, the oil temperature quickly reaches its operating range due to the already warm ambient air! Engine tests are performed at the designated point while I transmit a radio message announcing my approach.

Final checks completed, and with the directional control aligned, I apply full throttle. Climbing to 2000 feet and turning left, I begin exploring the northwest area. The fields are colored in various shades of yellow, dried out by the intense heat of this August month. The Vilaine River is still at its normal level, but smaller streams have disappeared from the landscape. I regularly monitor the engine temperature as it’s already 22°C even at altitude. Returning to Redon airfield, I execute a standard approach. The final descent is marked by some turbulence due to convection. I park in front of the fuel pump to refuel. Forty-five more minutes spent as pilot in command!
