Base 702, Avord, July 23rd

Today, a rally is planned, with the destination being the Base 702 in Avord, where the AWACS radar aircraft are stationed. Normally, this base is in a “P” zone, meaning it’s restricted to all civilian aircraft. However, it’s exceptionally opened to us for the HOP! Tour.

Unfortunately, there will be no travel images, as we are prohibited from taking photos on the base, and as I’m piloting during the rally, I won’t be able to take photos in flight.

Upon arrival at the base, we were invited to lunch with all the officers. Afterwards, we toured the base, starting with the Embraer Xingu aircraft. I was able to board one of them. Then we went to see the radar aircraft and watched a Mirage 2000 take off.

Return to Bourges, flying over the vineyards (Pouilly, Sancerre, etc.), and a briefing at 7:00 PM to prepare for the longest leg of the HOP! Tour to Pau. It’s 10:00 PM, and I still have to finalize my navigation for tomorrow. The night at the B&B is likely to be short…
